Just to complete our trio of Winter Meetings posts about outfielders:
Earlier today FoxSports' Jon Paul Morosi reported via Twitter the Tigers "checked in" with the Nationals about corner outfielder Josh Willingham. Ken Rosenthal adds the price is said to be "absurd." (Via MLB Trade Rumors).
Willingham had a .268 average, .389 on-base percentage and .459 OPS. In the field, he is a below-average left fielder. This is his last offseason of being arbitration-eligible and he should expect a boost to the $4.6 million he was paid last year. With the Nationals' addition of Jayson Werth over the weekend, he's suddenly a bit more expendable.
But GM Mike Rizzio always seems to enjoy demanding the unreasonable. Maybe the price will come down. He'd be a fine addition to Detroit. But given his contract situation he shouldn't be exchanged for too great of a prospect cost.
