In the opener against the Jays, Dontrelle Willis stalled a bit in his attempt to become the fifth starter. Only slightly, though. He walked three in four innings, and allowed a hit. But he also allowed just a run. Phil Coke, Joel Zumaya, Jose Valverde, Fu-Te Ni and Ryan Perry each pitched an inning in relief. Zumaya walked one and struck out one. Valverde kayed two.
Ramon Santiago rapped a pair of hits, and both Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen had doubles.
Evening game follows
In the evening game against the Nationals, Jeremy Bonderman allowed an earned run on five hits, struck out two and walked one.
Johnny Damon, Scott Sizemore, Max St. Pierre, Cale Iorg, Jeff Larish and Adam Everett each had a double. Magglio Ordonez recorded a pair of hits.
Commentary on the Bonderman-Willis-Nate Robertson competition will be tomorrow's post!
