The Tigers need for Rick Porcello to get back on track and keep the ball down. There's been some talk about his arm slot. Manager Jim Leyland said a little bit can make a big difference. And I looked at a lot of Pitch F/X graphs from last season to confirm what we all believe we're seeing. Porcello's velocity is a down a bit, and his pitches are being left up more often. It's nothing dramatic, but it's clear enough. I'm not convinced that's because of his innings jump, however. I think that will show up a bit later in the season, honestly. But that's not gospel or anything. The Tigers will need to do better at the plate against Mr. Pineiro than they did last time out. On April 19, they hit him, but not timely enough and were shut out for seven innings. The Angels' bullpen tacked on two more innings for a 2-0 win that game.
