Help us Dontrelle Willis, you're our only hope ... of not losing the opening series of the season.
After a rather disappointing game on Wednesday, it's up to the Tigers to bounce back this afternoon and for Willis to show fans why he deserved to keep the final spot in the rotation. This is his first career start against the Royals.
Interestingly enough, since 2006 the Tigers are 25-13 when playing in Kauffman Stadium. A win today would give them a nice .667 in this appearance and .667 overall.
Although Royals starter Brian Bannister did not face Detroit in 2009, many people remember the 1.71 ERA he put up against them in 2008. (And that was the year the Tigers actually had some offense!)
It's kind of pointless to get too high or too low on any player when your team hasn't even played a home game yet. But, it's wheels up after this game and a celebration in Detroit tomorrow afternoon for the home opener.
