Reports via Twitter say Triple-A Toledo outfielder Casper Wells has gotten to the call by the Detroit Tigers.
Wells is hitting .191 with a .268 on-base percentage and .374 slugging average for the Mud Hens.
He had a .351 / .433 / .662 line during play in the prospect-laden Arizona Fall League last year.
Regardless of his numbers so far this year, I'm not surprised to see him get a chance to show what he can do. With Ryan Raburn temporarily out of the picture, he's the type of player who should fit right into the role Raburn had in the outfield.
It will be his major league debut.
It's kind of fun seeing all these players make their debuts for the Tigers, especially given the fact the team is actually in second place and doing quite well. Usually you think of struggling teams when you think of teams with a bunch of rookies getting the call.
The flip side is that someone gets sent down. Who that is remains to be seen. I'd guess pitcher Alfredo Figaro, after the performance he had against the Yankees on Wednesday. But Detroit still needs to choose a starting pitcher for Sunday and Figaro should be available to do that if they'd like him to.
