Pregame news and notes:

If you tune into Fox Sports Detroit at 7 p.m., and Rod and Mario are nowhere to be seen, don't panic. Tonight's game will not be shown on FSD. Locally, the game is on broadcast TV. WJBK, FOX 2 in Detroit is carrying the game. How retro!

In case you missed it earlier, as it was announced around 2 a.m. Detroit time, the Tigers sent down Casper Wells (breaking Allikazoo's heart in the process) and recalled Ryan Raburn. Considering Raburn's ability to play (though not actually field) several positions, it makes sense to have him back on the roster for interleague play.

Extreme Makeover, Max Scherzer Edition, continues in Toledo, and there's good news. Via the Free Press (and as noted by David in his nightly BYB minor league updates):

In his first start for Triple-A Toledo, Scherzer made a correction in the arm slot. He allowed one hit in eight innings in his 4-0 win Thursday night over visiting Durham.

It's only one start, but it was a very encouraging one start.

Glass Joe Carlos Guillen will see his first game action as his Toledo rehab begins today (The Mud Hens were rained out on Friday). He is scheduled to play 2nd base during every game of the rehab stint. It's really going to happen, gang. Guillen's headed for 2nd base in Detroit. The training staff best have Detroit Medical Center on red alert status!

Since 2006, the Tigers have the 2nd best interleague record in baseball, 52-21, a .712 winning percentage. Who's 1st? Those damned Twins, who have played .740 ball against the junior varsity.

Since interleague play began in 1997, the Tigers' overall record is 123-107. The W/L record makes the JV NL look even worse, considering how bad the Tigers were from '97 to '05.

Papa Grande, the Big Potato himself, Jose Valverde, has not allowed a run in 18 straight appearances, 17.2 innings in total. As much as we complained at BYB about the big money deal Valverde was given, he's certainly lived up to the contract' expectations. Only 63 more saves to go to reach his stated goal of 74!

We're really catching a break with the early west coast start times. There's only one more post 10 p.m. start on this road trip, Tuesday night in Seattle.
