Max Scherzer cut up Syracuse over 7 innings- he allowed 1 run on 3 hits and a walk with 7 strikeouts. Jay Sborz pitched the last 2 innings and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits (including a homer) with 3 strikeouts. Carlos Guillen was 3-5 with 3 doubles in his rehab game, Scott Sizemore was 2-4 playing third base (huh), Max St Pierre was 2-4 with a double and Ryan Streiby was 2-5 with a double.
Thad Weber had a poor start- 4 runs allowed (though only 2 were earned) on 10 hits, a walk and a strikeout. Jared Gayhart put up a solid 1.1 hitless innings in which he walked 1and struck out 2. Shawn Roof was 2-4.
Lakeland brought their offensive A game. Not that they needed it with Charlie Furbush on the mound- he struck out 12(!!!!!!!!!!) over 8 innings, walking nobody and only letting up 4 hits (though one was a solo homer). Max Scherzer be damned, Furbush is the player of the day. Daniel Fields was 2-4 with a walk, Rawley Bishop was 3-4 with a double and Kody Kaiser was 2-4 with a double.
A: West Michigan 3, Lansing 0 (Game 1)
Ramon Lebron Giovany Soto went 7 innings in the first game of a doubleheader. He gave up 4 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts. Jordan Lennarton was 2-3 with a double and a walk and Michael Rockett was 1-4 with a double.
Lansing 7, West Michigan 1 (Game 2)
Why is it that the SP today was either crazy wicked awesome or pure mediocrity? Victor Larez got absolutely shelled in his spot start- he gave up 6 runs on 9 hits in 2.1 innings, walking nobody and striking out a batter. Luis Palacios was 1-3 with a triple, so he's the offensive superstar.
