A baseball legend passed away, one who meant the world to Tigers fans. Ernie Harwell was the voice of baseball to generations of Michiganders. I realize most of us are still down after the events of last night.

I know it'll be difficult for many of us, but there's a game to be played in Minnesota this afternoon. Rather than mourn Ernie's death, let's celebrate his long life by doing our best to enjoy the game and team he represented so well.

Notes of interest from the various game previews:

It's all Austin Jackson, all the time.

Jackson won the AL Rookie of the Month award for April. He's the third Tiger to win the award, joining Justin Verlander (May '06) and Rick Porcello (May '09).

Jackson has reached base in 22 consecutive games. He's hitting .404 with 38 hits, tops amongst all AL players, during the stretch.

Jackson leads the AL with 14 multi-hit games this season. With 14 multi-hit games in his first 27 games, he joins John Stone (1928) as the only Tigers since 1920 to accomplish the feat.

Jackson is only the third Tiger to collect at least one hit in 24 of his first 27 career games. Dale Alexander (1929) and Coot Veal (1959) are the others.

Jackson leads the AL with 9 infield hits.

In non-Austin Jackson related news:

Catcher Gerald Laird suffered a bruised left shin Tuesday after fouling a ball of his leg in the top of the 5 inning. The Tigers said X-rays were negative. Laird is listed as day to day.

In his last three starts, Rick Porcello has an 11.20 ERA, allowing 17 earned runs on 26 hits and four walks in 13.2 innings.

Let's win one for Ernie, guys!
