The Detroit Tigers' "Old Home Weekend'" against the Arizona Diamondbacks continues, as another former Tiger pitcher, Edwin Jackson, takes on his ex-teammates in game 2 of the series.

Game 1 of Old Home Weekend was taken by the Tigers Friday night, as they knocked ex-Tiger Dontrelle Willis out of the box after 5 innings in a 7-5, last at-bat, victory. victory. It was the 7th win in a row for the Tigers, who are kicking ass and taking names in their current homestand against the baseball's junior varsity, otherwise known as the National League.

Notes of interest:

The Diamondbacks have now lost 14 consecutive road games, the 4th longest road losing streak in the majors since 2000. (The Indians and the Nationals have the longest at 16 games, both streaks broken up between the end of the '09 and the start of the '10.)

With those damned Twins losing to the Phillies last night, their 4.5 game lead over the Tigers has been reduced to mere percentage points, .567 to .561. No matter what happens, one thing will always stay the same. The fact that I really, really HATE the Twins.

This is Rick Porcello's first appearance on the mound since his last start was skipped after giving up a career high 8 runs in only 3.1 innings against the White Sox on June 9th. After the White Sox pounded Porcello, Jim Leyland decreed the struggling sophomore starter was going work on his stuff during bullpen sessions, instead of doing so while facing live AL hitting. We'll see tonight if Porcello was able to find his missing sinker in the 10 days between starts.

Brandon Inge beat the Diamondbacks last night with an RBI triple in the bottom of the 8th, continuing a hot streak of epic proportions. Since his BA bottomed out at .215 on May 29th, he's gotten hits in 15 of 18 games (including a 10 game hitting streak) raised his average 49 points to .264 and his OBP 42 points to .323. With Inge rediscovering his first half of '09 offensive form, Alex Avila getting more playing time at catcher just as his bat started to wake up, and Danny Worth being inserted at short , the Tigers' bottom of the order is no longer where offensive rallies go to die....for the time being, anyway.

As Kurt. mentioned last night, I was on BYB's DL, as I underwent another back surgery (the 3rd of my life, and 2nd within a year) on June 4th. It's good to be back up and blogging!
