The Tigers head to New York for another interleague series. This time they'll meet the Mets, a team they have not played since 2007. The Mets had a rough start to the year but have won eight of their last 10 and stand just 2.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East.
None of the Tigers have faced Jon Niese, a lefty who has had three excellent starts recently (including one CG), but has otherwise been a bit inconsistent.
Rod Barajas has faced Justin Verlander several times with little success, as for other Mets batters there isn't a whole lot to say as most of them have never seen him. The only standout is Jeff Francoeur, who has faced him three times with two hits.
Head over to Amazin' Avenue for more SBN Mets-related stuff.
Today's lineup includes NL rules with Verlander batting, which is always amusing, and the triumphant return of Austin Jackson after a week spent on the bench due to some back issues. Oh, and, uh, Laird batting second. (Note from Kurt: ACK!)
Tigers lineup: Jackson 8, Laird 2, Ordonez 9, Cabrera 3, Boesch 7, Guillen 4, Inge 5, Worth 6, Verlander 1
Mets lineup: Reyes-SS, Pagan-CF, Wright-3B, Davis-1B, Bay-LF, Barajas-C, Francoeur-RF, Tejada-2B, Niese-P
