MLM Recap: Brooks Brown strikes out 9 as Erie wallops Trenton

Vacation's fun, but it's too easy to fall behind. Here's a list of transactional moves, courtesy of Matt Wallace.

Recaps will be divided into days, with Tuesday above the jump and the other days below. Connecticut won't be covered today- I'll start them tomorrow. I hate falling behind...

Tuesday

AAA: Louisville 3, Toledo 2

Ryan Ketchner went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts. Casper Wells was 1-3 with a double and Jon Weber was 1-4 with a homer.

AA: Erie 8, Trenton 2 (completion of past game)

Brooks Brown was a horse- he pitched a complete 9 inning game (sure, 3 of those innings were a month ago I think, but bear with me), giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits (2 homers) and 2 walks while striking out 9. Cale Iorg was 2-4 with a homer and probably needs to be demoted at this point as his average is currently .206. Michael Bertram was 2-4 with a homer.

A+: Lakeland 6, Dayton 4 (7 innings)

Bullpen start. Kudos go to closer Lester Oliveros, who pitched an inning with 1 hit and 1 strikeout. Billy Nowlin was 3-3 and Rawley Bishop was 1-3 with a homer.

A: Midwest League East All-Stars 6, Midwest League West All-Stars, 2

The Whitecaps had 2 reps at the All-Star Game. Jacob Turner gave up a hit in his inning, and Giovany Soto gave up a hit and struck a player out in his.

Monday

AAA: Toledo 6, Louisville 1

Billy Bucker put in a pretty solid start- 8 innings, with only 4 hits allowed to one walk. No strikeouts, but considering how poorly he was doing before, I'll take that. Casey Fien threw one inning, giving up 1 hit and 1 strikeout. Brent Dlugach was 4-5 with a double and Will Rhymes was 2-4 with a double.

AA Erie DNP (off-day)

A+: Lakeland DNP (rain)

A: West Michigan DNP (All-Star break)

Sunday

AAA: Toledo 5, Norfolk 1

Alfredo Figaro threw 7.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 8 hits with 8 strikeouts. This kid confuses me- he needs time to actually try to succeed at the major league level. Jon Weber was 3-4 with a double.

AA: Erie 13, New Hampshire 6

Duane Below went 5.1 innings, giving up 4 earned on 6 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts. Audy Ciriaco and Andy Dirks were both 2-4 with a homer.

A+: Lakeland DNP (off-day)

Saturday

AAA: Norfolk 10, Toledo 3

LJ Gagnier got shelled- 6 earned on 9 hits (including a homer) with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Jeff Larish was 3-3 with a double.

AA: Erie 8, New Hampshire 2

Andy Oliver was pretty darn good- he went 6.2 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts. Zach Simons pitched an inning with 2 strikeouts.

A+: Brevard County 13, Lakeland 5

Luke Putkonen got shelled- 4 innings + 11 hits (one a homer) and 2 walks = 7 earned runs. And only one strikeout. John Murrian was 1-3 with a double.

Friday

AAA: Toledo 6, Norfolk 4

Ruddy Lugo went 5 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits and 4 walks, striking out 3. Jay Sborz pitched a hitless inning with 1 strikeout.

AA: New Hampshire 7, Erie 4

Erie's still down a starter so this one went to the bullpen. It's not pretty, and when Jay Voss and his 1.1 innings of 1 run ball (on a homer) is most notable, you have a problem. But hey, at least Voss got 3 strikeouts. Ben Johnson, Deik Scram and Ronnie Bourquin all hit homers with nothing else.

A+: Brevard County 5, Lakeland 1

Jon Kibler is suffering. 4.2 innings of 4 run ball (courtesy of 8 hits, a homer, and 5 walks to only 1 strikeout). He might be injured. Erik Crichton went 2 innings, striking out 1. Daniel Fields was 2-4 and Billy Nowlin was 2-3 with a walk.

A: West Michigan 6, Bowling Green 2

Jacob Turner went 5.2 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits (one a homer) and a walk with 2 strikeouts. Zach Samuels went 3.1 hitless innings, striking out 3. Wade Gaynor was 3-5 with a triple and a homer.
