Game 73: Tigers at Braves, 4:10 pm

What's Jim Leyland thinking? A) I wish I had a Marlboro right now. B) I wish I had a pack of Marlboros right now. C) I wish I had a carton of Marlboros right now.

Johnny Damon is today's odd man out.

Pregame linkage:

For those of you worried about Brennan Boesch flaming out, the gang at Detroit4Lyfe assuages your worries with an "An open letter from Brennan Boesch"

Greg Eno says we should have known better than to start writing Magglio Ordonez off at Where Have You Gone Johnny Grubb?

Rogo is always good for a rant at DesigNate Robertson. Today he goes off on Jim Leyland, whom he hates more than Don Kelly!

With the recent spate of call-ups and amateur signings in the Tigers system, Matt of Take 75 North takes an in-depth look at the newest Tigers and who's where in the system.

Laird is smoking hot at the plate! But it's the wrong Laird. It's Brandon Laird, the Yankees' Triple A farmhand and Gerald's brother.

Quick news and notes:

Ryan Perry begins his injury rehab with the Mud Hens today. Let's hope the Toledo magic works with Perry the same way it did with Max Scherzer.

Brennan Boesch is the only Tigers outfielder who is scheduled to play all 3 games of the Braves series.

Braves starter Kenshin Kawakami hasn't won a start since he beat the Marlins on Aug. 31 of last year. He's 0-11 since.

Scherzer is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 5 appearances, 3 of them starts, versus the Braves.

In case you haven't noticed, the White Sox have won 10 in a row, and 15 of 17. They are only 1.5 games behind the Twins, and a game behind the Tigers. The Central has become a 3 team race.

The Tigers have not had much luck on the road as of late, as if I needed to remind you. They've lost the first game in 5 of their last 6 series on the road, and not won a road series in 5 weeks.

And one more thing...

GO USA!
