It's Saturday night. Or more likely Sunday by the time you get around to reading this. Which is to say, this will be a short recap.

Notable things:

  • Jose Valverde had a five-out save after the Royals threatened in the eighth. Valverde got the double-play quickly and had a fairly uneventful -- pitching-wise -- ninth. It was Valverde's first save of more than three outs in Detroit, Dan Dickerson tweets.
  • Miguel Cabrera launched a whale of a home run in the sixth.
  • Carlos Guillen had a two-run double in the eighth for some much-needed insurance.
  • Joel Zumaya left the game with a finger problem -- a torn callous according to Tom Gage -- in the eighth. It's not serious, however.
  • Austin Jackson, Don Kelly and Johnny Damon each went 0-for-5 at the top of the lineup. Jackson is now 0-for-10 in Kansas City this series.
