Blame Canada: Tigers lose Ordonez and Guillen in 3-2 loss to Blue Jays

Maybe we should blame Gene Lamont too?

The Tigers squandered a chance to gain a game on the White Sox tonight, losing to the Blue Jays 3-2. But the loss takes a back seat to injury news. Two of the Tigers' most important players went down tonight.

Magglio Ordonez fractured his right ankle, will miss at least 6-8 weeks....and his $15 million guaranteed for 2011 may have gone missing as well.

Carlos Guillen left midway through the game, thanks to a strained right calf. First reports say Guillen is day to day...for the time being. It's not been confirmed. Remember, we're talking about baseball's Glass Joe here...

I'm sure Ordonez will be placed on the DL by tomorrow, joining Joel Zumaya and Brandon Inge...and Bobby Seay and Zach Miner. The Tigers have to play a day/night doubleheader tomorrow. They are literally running out of capable players. The Tigers will have to lean even more heavily upon their rookies and youngsters...most of whom have never been in a pennant race.

Not that the Tigers will be a pennant race for that much longer.

With Ordonez and Guillen out, Boesch slumping, the Tigers' offense is entirely on the shoulders of Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera...and there's no one else stepping up. The rotation is Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer and nothing but question marks in the next three slots...including Rick Porcello, who was only OK tonight.. (6 IP, 5 H, 4 BB, 3 R, 0 K)

I know I'm usually the "glass half full" blogger here at BYB. But I'm going to be blunt. Without Magglio Ordonez, the Tigers are in trouble. Deep, deep trouble.

So I have only one thing to say... EVERYBODY PANIC!!!
