Oops. So much for "I'll work on it during the day".
Monday
AAA: Columbus 5, Toledo 4 (41-44, 3rd out of 4)
LJ Gagnier went 5 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits (one homer) and a walk with 6 strikeouts. Ryan Strieby was 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk
AA: Erie 8, Bowie 7 (11 innings) (33-51, 6th out of 6)
Hey! Erie actually won at baseball! Duane Below went 3 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits (3 of them homers) with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Lester Oliveros went 1 inning, giving up a hit, walking 1 and striking out 3. Alden Carrithers was 2-5 with a walk and Angel Flores was 2-5 with a homer.
A+: Lakeland vs. Dunedin postponed (rain) (standings glitched up, I'll update them tomorrow)
A: Dayton 6, West Michigan 5 (standings also glitched... dunno what's going on)
Luis Sanz got knocked around in his 6.2 innings of work- 5 earned runs allowed on 5 hits (one a homer), 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Wade Gaynor was 3-4 with a triple and a homer.
SS: Mahoning Valley 8, Connecticut 3 (10-8, 2nd place)
Rayni Guichardo went 4 innings- he gave up 2 unearned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks to 2 strikeouts. PJ Polk was 2-4 with a double.
Sunday
10 losses in a row for Toledo! Rick Porcello got shelled- again. 5 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Groundball/flyball ratio of 9-4. Not a bad start, but not exactly reassuring. Will Rhymes was 2-5 with 2 doubles and Brent Dlugach was 2-4 with one double. Also, Jay Sborz and Jeff Frazier are all-stars!
AA: Richmond 4, Erie 3 (10 innings)
Ramon Garcia went 6 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits (one a homer) and a walk with 4 strikeouts. Deik Scram was 1-3 with a walk, but more interesting is a move to CF for Andy Dirks- this could mean that he's getting looked at as a 4th OF candidate for the future.
Now THESE are Fourth of July fireworks. Adam Wilk went 7 shutout innings, giving up 4 hits and striking out 9. He's not even the star. That would have to be Jordan "4 for 5" Lennarton. Props go to Samir Rijio, who had the only extra base hit of the game (a double) and Alexander Moreno/Patrick McKenna, who both went 3-4 with a walk.
Victor Larez went 5 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits (one homer) and 4 strikeouts. Tony Plagman was 2-4 with a double and a homer while Clay Jones was 3-3 with a walk.
SS: Connecticut 6, Mahoning Valley 1
Patrick Cooper went 5 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Kevan Hess struck out 3 and walked 1 in a hitless inning. Ryan Soares was 2-4 with a double and Matt Perry was 3-3 with a double and a walk.
Saturday
Surprise! Another MudHen gets shelled. This time, it was Ryan Ketchner, who went 3.2 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits (1 homer) and 4 walks with 2 strikeouts. Thank goodness for Scot Drucker, whose 3.2 inning performance (2 earned runs on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts)... allowed the MudHens to lose by 6. Ryan Strieby was 2-4 with a homer.
Brooks Brown is a horse. 9 innings of shutout ball courtesy of 4 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts. Ben Guez was 4-4 with 2 doubles.
Brayan Villareal had a 2 inning start- which worries me because he just came off the DL. It wasn't a bad 2 innings either- 2 earned runs on 2 hits (one homer) and a strikeout. Brandon Douglas was 3-4 with a triple, Francisco Martinez (best prospect you've never heard of) was 3-4 with 2 double and Daniel Fields was 0-1... but walked twice and did not strike out.
A: Lake County 7, West Michigan 0
Nate Newman went 5 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 5 hits (one homer) and 3 walks. Chris Sedon went 2-3.
SS: Tri-City 10, Connecticut 2
Clemente Mendoza gave up 9 earned runs in 1.1 innings of work. He did so by giving up 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out a mere 2. Drew Gagnier gave up 1 hit and 1 walk in 3 innings, striking out 3. Matt Perry was 2-4.
Friday
The starter was Billy Buckner. The line was more of the same: 5.1 innings of 5 run ball (4 earned) courtesy of 7 hits (one homer), 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Fu-Ti Ni struck out two in a hitless inning, as did Ryan Perry on his last night of rehab. Jeff Larish was 1-4 with a homer.
Thad Weber put in a good effort, going 7.1 innings and giving up a mere 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts. But the offense disappeared (again). Bryan Pounds and Alden Carrithers both doubled, and that's about it for the hitting.
Luke Putkonen clearly wants to get promoted to Erie- that's why he's pitching like one of their starters. 4 innings, 4 earned runs allowed on 7 hits and 3 walks with a strikeout. Francisco Martinez tripled, so there's that.
A: West Michigan 1, Lake County 0
Jared Wesson went 3.1 innings, giving up 2 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2. Chris Sedon was 1-2 with a homer.
Brennan Smith went 4 innings, giving up 3 hits and striking out 2. Londell Taylor was 1-4 with a homer.
