The Tigers have been playing with an extra reliever since having their bullpen taxed about a week ago. It looks like that will continue, at least for a little while longer.
The Tigers announced a pair of roster moves today: RHP Alfredo Figaro was recalled, and RHP (and adoptee by the Bless You Boys crew) Robbie Weinhardt was optioned to the 'Hens.
Figaro has a 27 ERA and 7.50 WHIP for his only appearance in the majors this year, a two-out, three-hit, two-walk affair in May.
Weinhardt hasn't had the best of luck, but he also failed to keep his pitches down, which caught the eye of manager Jim Leyland. He has a 9.17 ERA and 1.81 WHIP after being touched for two hits and a walk yesterday against the Yankees. Leyland told the press:
When you need a ground ball, you can't throw everything chest-high.
"(Robbie) Weinhardt was up, up, up, up, up."
