West Michigan wins three to keep playoff hopes alive

Sunday

AAA: Louisville 8, Toledo 0

Andy Oliver pitched six decent innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits (one homer) and three walks with five strikeouts. Scott Sizemore, Chris White and Robinzon Diaz doubled.

AA: Erie 7, Akron 4

Duane Below allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in his 5.1 innings of work. But good relief and hitting pulled him out of the fire. Billy Nowlin was 2-4 with two doubles while Brandon Douglas was 2-for-5 with two doubles.

A+: Daytona 6, Lakeland 1

Jeff Barfield allowed three runs (two earned) in 4 innings on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Gabriel Purroy was 3-4 with a double.

A: West Michigan 8, Great Lakes 1

Patrick Cooper gave up an earned run in 6.2 innings, on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Wade Gaynor was 2-for-5 with two doubles.

SS: Connecticut 6, Brooklyn 3

Josue Carreno allowed three earned runs on three hits (one homer) with two walks and five strikeouts. Brett Anderson and Josh Ashenbrenner were both 2-for-3 with doubles.

Saturday

AAA: Toledo 8, Louisville 3

Charlie Furbush pitched eight strong innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Chris White was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

AA: Akron 9, Erie 0

Jon Kibler allowed seven earned runs in four innings of work. The culprit? His six walks. Billy Nowlin was 1-for-3 with a double.

A+: Lakeland 3, Daytona 0

Luke Putknonen allowed four hits and a walk with four strikeouts in his 7.2 innings of work. Francisco Martinez was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double.

A: West Michigan 10, Great Lakes 5

Luis Angel Sanz allowed five earned runs while striking out six in 6.2 innings. Jamie Johnson was 2-5 with a double.

Ryan Ketchner allowed one earned run over 5.1 innings on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Cale Iorg was 3-for-5 with a double and no strikeouts.

AA: Akron 5, Erie 2

Brayan Villarreal didn't pitch too badly. He gave up two earned runs on three hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in five innings. But the hitting let him down. Brandon Douglas was 3-for-5 with a double.

A+: Lakeland 5, Daytona 1

Jacob Turner struck out five in five innings, walking one and allowing three hits. Jared Gayhart had three hitless innings with five strikeouts.

A: West Michigan 2, Lansing 1

Victor Larez allowed an earned run in 6.1 innings, walking two and striking out three. Jamie Johnson was 2-for-4 with a walk while Clay Jones was 2-for-4.

SS: Connecticut 8, Vermont 2

Patrick Lawson gave up two earned runs on one hit with six walks and two strikeouts over 5.1 innings. James Robbins was 2-for-5 with a homer.
