Adam Wilk strikes out 8 Flying Squirrels as Erie beats Richmond

One quick thing to point out before we get into recaps: The Tigers have announced the seven players from the organization who are headed to the Arizona Fall League. The seven are Chance Ruffin, Ryan Strieby, Cale Iorg, Brendan Wise, Brooks Brown, Matt Hoffman and Francisco Martinez.

AAA: Louisville 4, Toledo 1

The newly promoted Thad Weber allowed one earned run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in his eight innings. The run was on a solo homer. Jeff Frazier was 1-for-3 with a homer and Michael Bertram (also newly promoted) was 1-for-4 with a homer.

AA: Erie 4, Richmond 2

Anthony Shawler went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Billy Nowlin was 3-for-4 with two homers while Bryan Pounds was 3-for-4.

A+: Dunedin 4, Lakeland 3 (10 innings)

Luke Sorensen went six innings, allowing two runs, one of which was earned, on five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Jordan Lennarton was 3-for-5 with three doubles while Gustavo Nunez tripled.

A: Great Lakes 13, West Michigan 7

Can you imagine seeing this score from West Michigan just three months ago? A pitching-centric team who couldn't score runs to save their lives has turned into a run-scoring dynamo since the draft. It's rather amusing.

Jared Wesson and Joel Zumaya combined to allow a whopping 12 runs (eight by Wesson, four by Zumaya). The good news was that Wesson only walked one while striking out two and not allowing a homer, so all the damage by starter and reliever was caused by hits falling in. Wade Gaynor was 4-for-5 with a double and a homer, Michael Rockett was 4-for-5 with a double and Clay Jones was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.

SS: Connecticut 2, Aberdeen 1 (11 innings)

Clemente Mendoza went eight innings, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Alexander Nunez was 3-for-5 with a homer and a stolen base.
