Tigers make it official, Carlos Guillen will have season ending surgery

This is now the last play of Carlos Guillen's 2010 season.
This is now the last play of Carlos Guillen's 2010 season.

From the "as if you didn't see it coming" department, we have bad, yet not unexpected, news about Glass Joe Carlos Guillen.

Via the Freep:

The Detroit Tigers today announced that infielder Carlos Guillen will undergo a surgical procedure that will end his season.

Guillen has been out of the Tigers' lineup since August 17th, the day after he was taken out by the Yankees' Brett Gardner in midst of turning a game ending double play.

Surgery will be performed on Guillen's left knee next Wednesday, ending the Tigers' 2nd baseman's season at 68 games played. The previous career low in games played for the injury prone Guillen was 81...set last season.

A full recovery is expected, and Guillen should be healthy for the start of 2011 spring training...when something else on Guillen's body will quite likely break down, and the circle begins again.

That last part was just my opinion, of course.
