Have you had your fill of college football for the day? Did you watch any? (I didn't.) Time for baseball.
Note from Al: //Raises hand// Did I have my fill? Oh, Hell no! Did I watch? YES! I'm a red-blooded American male who likes his football...though I love baseball too. Don't judge me!
Jim Leyland says momentum is only as good as the next day's pitcher. Rick Porcello has been pretty good in his last two starts, having allowed no runs and one run in those games, so let's see if he can keep it going. ... But he has a 6.12 ERA and 2-6 record in 10 games on the road (the team went 3-7). So something's going to give.
Looking over the Tigers' game notes, here's an interesting one: The last time the Tigers rallied from four-runs down in back-to-back games (as they did Thursday and Friday) came July 13-14, 2006. (They credit STATS Inc as the source.) Also, last night's game was the third extra-inning game in a row. The last time the Tigers did that was July 11-16, 1976.
More stuff from the notes?
How hot is Ryan Raburn? He is hitting .340 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in his last 27 games.
Will Rhymes ranks third among American League rookies in batting average after the All-Star Break, with .310. He's hit safely in 14 of 15 games now. A little research of my own to add: Austin Jackson is hitting .313 with a .792 OPS after the break. Brennan Boesch is hitting .156 with a .452 OPS ... making him the worst Tigers batter since the break. Ouch.
