Miguel Cabrera named top Venezuelan in MLB

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was named the top Venezuelan baseball player in the MLB today, earning him the Luis Aparicio Award. MLB.com's Jason Beck reports Cabrera earned all 100 first-place votes. Tigers DH Victor Martinez finished in second place in the voting, while the Indians Asdrubal Cabrera was third. The ceremony will be held Nov. 18 in Maracaibo.

Cabrera won the batting title with a .344 average. His OPS of 1.033 (.448 OPS, .586 SLG) was second in the MLB behind Jose Bautista. It marked the second-best OPS of Cabrera major league career.
