2011 Detroit Tigers Prospects: #26, Avisail Garcia, OF

Every weekday from February 7-25, I'll be publishing a prospect profile from my top 30 Detroit Tigers prospect list. The profiles that appear here on Bless You Boys were the ones that were cut for space from this year's Maple Street Press Tigers Annual. You'll be able to read half the list for free, but I'd really encourage you to order the annual for the other half (not to mention all the other great content).

Avisail Garcia, OF, Grade C

Bats R, Throws R, Height 6'3, Weight 190 lbs, Date of Birth June 12, 1991

Garcia is another toolsy player, similar to Francisco Martinez. He possesses good raw ability, including plus speed and a great arm, as well as good raw power (especially for an 18 year old player). But right now, he's all potential. He needs to refine his knowledge of the strike zone (113 strikeouts in 524 at bats, or a strikeout 21.7% of the time) and he must start putting the tools to some use. The average rose this year, and he stole 20 bases to only 4 times caught stealing, but power and discipline are paramount. Garcia could break out at any time, so watch out for him. ETA 2014-2015: he's a while away.
