2011 Detroit Tigers Prospects: #23, Brandon Douglas, INF

Every weekday from February 7-25, I'll be publishing a prospect profile from my top 30 Detroit Tigers prospect list. The profiles that appear here on Bless You Boys were the ones that were cut for space from this year's Maple Street Press Tigers Annual. You'll be able to read half the list for free, but I'd really encourage you to order the annual for the other half (not to mention all the other great content).

Brandon Douglas, INF, Grade C

Bats R, Throws R, Height 6'0", Weight 185 lbs, Date of Birth August 27, 1985

Douglas dealt with some lower body injury problems in 2009 and early 2010 (groin and hamstring issues) but he put just over 300 plate appearances in Class A Lakeland and Class AA Erie this year. In Lakeland, Douglas hit .331/.390/.426 and in Erie he hit .359/.403/.503. Douglas has a good hit tool, takes an occasional walk, and can steal a few bases, but his value comes from the ability to post high averages. He'll probably slug a bit better than .426 over 500 plate appearances, but he's a gap hitter, so don't expect .503 anytime soon. Douglas has good numbers, but he struggles at shortstop and he's 25, which means he's old for Erie. There are a lot of question marks here, but he could be a good utility player who could reach Detroit as soon as next year.
