2011 Detroit Tigers Prospects: #29, James Robbins, 1B

Every weekday from February 7-25, I'll be publishing a prospect profile from my top 30 Detroit Tigers prospect list. The profiles that appear here on Bless You Boys were the ones that were cut for space from this year's Maple Street Press Tigers Annual. You'll be able to read half the list for free, but I'd really encourage you to order the annual for the other half (not to mention all the other great content).

James Robbins, 1B, Grade C

Bats L, Throws L, Height 6'0", Weight 210 lbs, Date of Birth September 26, 1990

Robbins is a toolsy first baseman who spent 2010 in Short Season Connecticut. The Tigers gave him a big bonus ($235,000) after selecting him in the 30th round of the draft in 2009 because he projected to have good power potential, passable speed and decent contact ability. However, he struck out way too much (91 times in 276 plate appearances) in Short Season Connecticut. His OPS was league average at .688, and as a 19 year old that's not too horrible. He gets a C for potential, but his ETA is 2014 or beyond.
