Andy Dirks' spring to remember continued, as his walk-off triple scored the Tigers' only two runs of the day, lifting Detroit above the Braves 2-1. Brennan Boesch and Scott SIzemore scored on the play. Reliever Robbie Weinhardt picked up the victory after pitching a scoreless top half of the inning.
Dirks improved his average to .364 for the spring, though I think that puts him more in line for a mid-season call-up than a major-league roster spot to begin the year. Boesch was the only Tigers to have a multi-hit day, as he had two.
On the mound for the Tigers, Rick Porcello walked three and allowed three hits in 4 2/3 innings on the mound. He gave up one run. Adam Wilk and Daniel Schlereth combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
The Tigers trimmed their Lakeland roster by a couple before the game. PItchers Al Alberquerque and Charles Furbush were both optioned to Triple-A Toledo. Neither seemed to have a good chance to make the opening-day roster, so the moves did not come as a surprise. Also, infielder Scott Thorman and Argenis Diaz were assigned to minor-league camp.
