Boesch homers, Tigers drop Grapefruit League closer

New, comments

Six weeks or so ago, we typed the words you dream of all winter. "Pitchers and Catchers report." Today, the words you dream of all March: The Grapefruit League season is over. Brennan Boesch went out with a bang. The rest of the Tigers lineup, maybe a bit more of a whimper. Detroit fell 2-1 to the Yankees. The teams meet again in Game 1 of the 2011 season at about 1:05 p.m. Thursday.

Rick Porcello pitched well in his final tune up. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks. He was the only pitcher from the 25-man roster to hit the mound. Fu-Te Ni went 1 2/3 of scoreless baseball, though.

At the plate, Boesch had a pair of hits, including his fourth home run of the spring. Magglio Ordonez had two hits as well.

Stats don't mean much of anything, but we'll review the Tigers' final spring training numbers tomorrow.
