KEY STAT
Brayan Villarreal, 0 pitches thrown, 1/3 inning pitched. ... He picked off a runner for the third out.
KEY PLAY
Gotta go with the five-pitch walk by Ryan Raburn in the ninth inning for Part A, the walk-off single by Miguel Cabrera for Part B, and special mention for the home-run saving grab over the fence by Raburn in the third inning.
KEY THOUGHTS
Side note: That Michael Young was given a sacrifice for a ball that was caught over the fence might explain why I don't like that stat. He wasn't giving himself up. He was out. Anyway...
It's always tempting to play the "This is the game that turns a season around" them, but that usually makes for better copy than fact. What is not debatable is that the Tigers put together a much better team effort than we've seen lately. Maybe their best of the season, maybe not. But a good effort.
It was too bad to see Joaquin Benoit blow a hold in the eighth inning, but at least he did it in what was a winning effort by the team.
Of note, Josh Hamilton broke his shoulder while sliding head-first in the first inning. (Fox Sports)
