So have I mentioned lately that Andy Oliver is an underrated beast-in-the-making? Oliver gave up one earned run on three hits over six innings. The run came off of a home run, which isn't great. What is great? The eight strikeouts to one walk that Oliver posted over those six innings. Scott Thorman and Clete Thomas both homered.
Jacob Turner pitched for Erie today, and he did okay. Turner went seven innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits (one of which was a homer) with a walk and four strikeouts. For a 19 year old in AA, that's a darn good start. Jamie Johnson was 4-5 with two doubles, Bryan Holaday was 2-3 with a double and Audy Ciriaco was 2-4 with a double.
Trevor Feeney was the starter for Lakeland, and he went 5.1 innings, giving up three earned runs. Gustavo Nunez was 3-4 with a double, a homer and a walk. Wade Gaynor was 2-5 with a double.
A: West Michigan 3, Great Lakes 2
Jeff Ferrell went five innings, giving up two unearned runs and striking out six. Ferrel did give up a homer, however, so the two unearned runs may not be fair. James Robbins was 2-4 with a double. Nick Castellanos also got both his first hit and first walk of the year today.
