For those of you who are new to BYB and the recaps, I'll sometimes take some time to drop a link or two to good pieces, or even just insert some commentary. As such, I'd like to talk Gustavo Nunez for just a moment. I'm rather impressed at his performance through the first six games of the season, specifically the fact that he's walked four times to a mere two strikeouts. Considering Nunez struck out 16.3% of the time last year, and walked a mere 3.7% of the time, that's a big improvement. Now, it's only been six games, so take this analysis with a grain (perhaps mountain) of salt. But if even a little of this newfound discipline sticks, Nunez could jump back onto the scene as a prospect to watch. So keep him on your radar, even if it's just on the fringes.
Onto the recaps!
AAA: Toledo DNP (off-day)
AA: Erie vs. Binghamton postponed (weather)
A rough start for Drew Smyly today, who went 6.1 innings, giving up five runs (four earned). Smyly was understandably bummed but the five strikeouts to one walk are a good sign. Of course, that's little consolation to Smyly. Offensively, Daniel Fields was 2-3 with a double and a walk, Gustavo Nunez was 2-4 with a triple and a walk and Wade Gaynor doubled.
A:Great Lakes 8, West Michigan 5
Antonio Cruz got hit around a bit in his 3.1 innings of work. He gave up two earned runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Nick Castellanos was 2-5 with a double, Herman Perez was 4-5 with a double and a homer, Rob Brantly was 2-4 with a double and a walk and Luis Castillo was 2-5 with a double.
