AAA: Toledo 13, Columbus 5
Andy Oliver had a rough start today. He gave up four earned runs in six innings on six hits and three walks. On the plus side, he struck out eight batters and didn't give up any homers. Andy Dirks was 3-5 with two homers, a walk and two stolen bases. Ryan Strieby was 2-4 with a walk and a homer, and Clete Thomas was 2-4 with a homer and a steal.
I suppose my biggest concern about Jacob Turner's stellar performances is that the Tigers will decide to call him up way too early. Turner dominated again today, giving up one run in 6.2 innings. He walked one and struck out seven. Brandon Douglas was 2-4 with a double and a walk. Francisco Martinez went hitless, and his average is down to .108 on the season (though it has only been 37 at bats).
A rough outing for Drew Smyly today, who gave up four runs (three earned) over 5.2 innings. He walked two and struck out three. Gustavo Nunez was 3-4 with two doubles.
A: West Michigan 7, Fort Wayne 3
Want to see something fun? Take a look at Fifth Third Field this morning. Apparently even the team Vice President was roped into shoveling snow. The conditions sure didn't hurt West Michigan, who won pretty handily. Jeff Ferrell went five innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out three. Billy Nowlin was 3-4 with a homer, Hernan Perez was 3-4 with a stolen base, and Rob Brantly was 2-4.
