Magglio Ordonez has a sore ankle

Not to alarm you more than you already are, but Magglio Ordonez, who started the season 0-for-7 by the way, will likely miss Sunday's series concluder against the Yankees due to soreness in his left ankle. That would be the surgically repaired one if you're keeping track.

MLB.com's Jason Beck and other media members reported Ordonez came out of the game early due to the ankle, but manager Jim Leyland doesn't see it as a serious issue. Leyland told the press:

"This early in the season and in the cold, we just didn’t want to take any chances."

John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press quoted Leyland saying:

"I don’t want to make a big deal about it," Leyland said of Ordoñez’s ankle soreness, "because right now to my knowledge it’s not a big deal."

The Tigers planned to use Ordonez as the DH anyway, the reporters said. The outfielder will just get a day off and hopefully be back Monday in Baltimore, where the weather promises to be much more favorable.

With Ordonez out, Don Kelly will make his first start of the year in the outfield and Brennan Boesch might DH while Victor Martinez catches, Beck wrote.
