What to Watch For:
1. Hammel sore back - Rockies starter Jason Hammel left his last start against the Dodgers after just 83 pitches. A sore back left him struggling with his command, only landing 42 of his 83 pitches for strikes. In his last 3 starts, Hammel is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA.
2. Jimenez not a Tiger killer - After a rough season thus far, Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez takes the mound against the Tigers on Saturday night. He is 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA against the Tigers. Cabrera, Martinez, Ordonez, and Santiago all have averages of .333 or higher against him.
3. Verlander on fire - Tigers starter Justin Verlander is 12-2 in Interleague Play. In his last 3 starts, he's 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA and 29 strikeouts. Although he is not on fire with his bat, he is still looking for his first career hit. He is 0 for 16 career with 10 strikeouts. Not that it matters at all though.
4. Whose on 3rd? - Alex Avila will start at third base for the game tonight. Unless he has 5 or more errors, you'll likely see him there throughout the entire west coast trip. Don't forget, he did play third base at Alabama. Avila is hitting .424 with 6 RBIs in his last 10 games. I'm fine with him playing third.
Tigers travel to Los Angeles for a 3-game series against the Dodgers on Monday through Wednesday. Then it's back home on Friday for a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
