Afternoon Prowl: Brandon Inge, Justin Verlander and a couple ex-Tigers

AL Central In Focus: The Real Brennan Boesch Has Stood Up
Thanks to an improved line drive rate, better decision-making on what to swing at and sustainable BABIP, Brennan Boesch may finally be settling in as a ballplayer who can help his team on a daily basis, Corey Ettinger writes.

You’ve Got to Know When to Hold Them " Baseball and Not Baseball
We included this in a FanShot but I wanted to emphasize it for people who didn't see that. Basically, the percentages tell us how "sure" the third base coach better be before sending the runner home. Gene Lamont had to be 92% sure Jhonny Peralta would score Saturday in order to send them. With more outs, you take greater risks. With no outs, fewer. Pretty cool study overall.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera will not be in starting lineup (tonight) against Dodgers |
Cabrera has started every game this year. We're up to game 74 and this is his first day off. Didn't some people question his durability before the season?

Next start for Tigers' Justin Verlander is Saturday, which likely rules him out of All-Star game |

"It's like Dear Abby, only with worse routes!" Our own MS Paint wizard couldn't take writing a recap of last night's game so he dove into Ryan Raburn's mailbag.

Brandon Inge Stats, Bio, Photos, Highlights | Stats
During his rehab Inge is batting .380. Wait. Check that. His OPS is .380. Through five games with the Mud Hens he is batting .190 with no walks and no extra base hits and seven strikeouts in 21 at bats. How many are check swInges?

It’s up … and it’s good! Ozzie vents frustration on innocent face mask - Big League Stew - MLB Blog - Yahoo! Sports
Ozzie being Ozzie. Baseball would be less entertaining without him.

Cameron Maybin - San Diego Padres - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
Speaking of connections, Maybin, playing for the Padres, faced Andrew Miller, pitching for the Red Sox. Miller won the day. Sorta. I guess. Maybin went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout against Miller. And the Red Sox won 14-5 in Miller's Sox debut. For their careers, Maybin has a .246 average and .693 OPS, and Miller has a 5.82 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. And yet some of you guys wonder why I never get feelings of dread when a prospect is traded.

The AL is definitely the better league - SweetSpot Blog - ESPN
David Schoenfield gives a few reasons the AL might do so much better in interleague play (and until recently, All-Star games). Unfortunately, the Tigers seem not to be pulling their weight in this interleague thing after so many years of great success. Just note that I disliked interleague even before this dismal play!
