Thanks to an improved line drive rate, better decision-making on what to swing at and sustainable BABIP, Brennan Boesch may finally be settling in as a ballplayer who can help his team on a daily basis, Corey Ettinger writes.
You’ve Got to Know When to Hold Them " Baseball and Not Baseball
We included this in a FanShot but I wanted to emphasize it for people who didn't see that. Basically, the percentages tell us how "sure" the third base coach better be before sending the runner home. Gene Lamont had to be 92% sure Jhonny Peralta would score Saturday in order to send them. With more outs, you take greater risks. With no outs, fewer. Pretty cool study overall.

Cameron Maybin - San Diego Padres - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
Speaking of connections, Maybin, playing for the Padres, faced Andrew Miller, pitching for the Red Sox. Miller won the day. Sorta. I guess. Maybin went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout against Miller. And the Red Sox won 14-5 in Miller's Sox debut. For their careers, Maybin has a .246 average and .693 OPS, and Miller has a 5.82 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. And yet some of you guys wonder why I never get feelings of dread when a prospect is traded.
