2011 MLB Draft: The Detroit Tigers select James McCann with the 76th pick

New, 32 comments

The Detroit Tigers used their first draft choice in 2011 to select James McCann, a catcher out of Arkansas. MLB.com notes his intangibles, and he's a great choice in a thin college catching class.

McCann's game is very well rounded. BA reports that he doesn't have any standout tools, but that he can hit for a little power, has a chance to hit for average, is a fringe-average receiver and has slightly above average arm strength. The bat speed is average, but the defense is good. He's a safe choice- about as safe as you can get.

Stay tuned to Bless You Boys for even more draft coverage!
