2011 MLB Draft: The Detroit Tigers select Aaron Westlake with the 106th pick

In the third round, the Detroit Tigers select college senior Aaron Westlake, a first baseman out of Vanderbilt University. Westlake's bat is rather impressive: he has good bat speed and power, can punish mistakes and possesses patience at the plate. BA notes that he hit .292 with five homers last year in the Cape Cod league, and he led the Southeastern Conference in home runs in league games.

He also has an advanced approach at the plate. Westlake can drive the ball to the opposite field with some regularity, and he has pull power. He's adequate at first base, and probably has the skillset to play a corner outfield position as well. He'll also be a fast mover.
