In the fifth round, the Detroit Tigers select shortstop Brandon Loy, a shortstop from the University of Texas. Loy is very good in the field, with a strong arm, good hands and decent range.
Offensively, Loy is known for his bunting prowess, but has a short swing and a decent contact tool. His speed is average, but his instincts are good. Don't expect Loy to bat high in the order (well, unless Leyland is the manager) but his glove means he could be a good glove first starter who bats 9th or a defensive-minded utility player.
