Minor League Weekend Recap: Drew Smyly's AA debut goes swimmingly

Sunday

AAA: Toledo 8, Syracuse 5

Ramon Garcia struck out five batters in five innings, surrendering one earned run. Scott Thorman homered and Danny Worth doubled.

AA: Erie 5, Akron 1

Rob Waite walked two and struck out one in five scoreless innings. Bryan Pounds was 2-5 with a double.

A+: Lakeland 9, Fort Myers 4

Shawn Teufel threw seven innings and gave up two earned runs. Eric Roof was 3-5 with a double, while Avisail Garcia was 2-4 with a double and a walk.

A: South Bend 3, West Michigan 1

Victor Larez gave up three earned runs in six innings. Luis Alberto Sanz doubled.

SS: Connecticut 8, Batavia 2

Thomas Collier struck out seven and walked two in 5.2 innings. He gave up an earned run. Jeff Holm was 2-4 with a home run.

Saturday

AAA: Toledo 4, Syracuse 3 (11 innings)

Adam Wilk gave up an earned run in six innings, striking out six and walking two. Brandon Inge homered.

AA: Erie 5, Akron 0

Drew Smyly went seven shutout innings, striking out eight and walking two. Audy Ciriaco was 2-4 with a double and a triple, and Jamie Johnson had four hits.

A+: Fort Myers 9, Lakeland 2

Brian Stroud gave up six runs in six innings with six strikeouts, a walk and a home run. Avisail Garcia doubled.

A: West Michigan 6, South Bend 4

Brian Flynn struck out seven in six innings. He did, however, give up three runs (two earned). Nick Castellanos was 3-5 with two doubles, while James Robbins was 2-5 with two doubles.

SS: Connecticut 5, Batavia 4(12 innings)

Matt Crouse gave up two earned runs in 4.1 innings, striking out four. Nick Avila pitched three innings, struck out three and picked up the win. Tyler Collins was 3-6 with a pair of home runs.

Friday

AAA: Toledo 5, Norfolk 2

Fu-Te Ni gave up two runs on seven hits in six, striking out a couple and walking one. Brendan Wise (2 IP) and Ryan Perry (1 IP, 2 H, BB, K) wrapped up with three scoreless innings between them. All the runs came from homers as Will Rhymes (2 for 3) and Jeff Salazar had solo shots and Strieby iced it with a 3-run job in the eighth.

AA: Erie 1, Akron 0

Jay Voss shut out Akron over seven innings, though he walked four and struck out only two. Audy Ciriaco drove the offense, with two hits.

A+: Lakeland 11, Fort Myers 0

Jared Wesson shut out Fort Myers over six innings, striking out four and walking two. Rob Brantly doubled and walked, Avisail Garcia had three hits to go with a stolen base and Wade Gaynor was 2-4 with a double and a pair of walks.

A: West Michigan 6, Lansing 5

Josue Carreno pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned). Nick Castellanos had a hit and a pair of walks, while Steven Moya homered.

SS: Brooklyn 2, Connecticut 0

Brennan Smith threw seven shutout innings, striking out six and walking two. Matt Perry was 2-2 with a double and a walk.
