Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski responded to media members about today's rumors of a contract offer to Scott Hairston, flat out denying contract offers had been made to any outfielders in just four words.
"No, we have not."
Jon Paul Morosi, the source behind the Hairston rumors, has publicly retracted his earlier report, saying he "misinterpreted information."
So there you go.
If the Tigers do sign a free agent outfielder, odds are he will strictly be a one-year placeholder. In Dombrowski's always carefully parsed words:
"Ideally, you're looking for short-term."
Dombrowski did say that Avisail Garcia and Nick Castellanos are in the mix to make the roster in 2013 with a good spring.
"Let's just say you sign Player X for one year at $2 million," Dombrowski said. "Then Castellanos and Garcia, they don't have a chance. Maybe that's better and maybe it's not, but they're talented enough that we feel that it's not out of the question that one of them could earn some playing time in spring training."
The Hairston reports have been officially shot down. We can all move on to the next rumor.
