Detroit Tigers reliever Joaquin Benoit missed his throwing session today after suffering from neck soreness today in Lakeland. The right-hander said the pain increased throughout the morning until he could no longer turn his head to the right. Benoit does not think this will be a lingering issue.
Benoit told Chris Iott of MLive:
"As soon as this thing is gone, I'll be in there. I was supposed to throw today, and I felt pretty good throwing. I'm just going to give it a little bit of time and come in here and work on it."
Benoit is beginning his second year of a three-year deal with the Tigers. He had a 2.95 ERA with 1.05 WHIP during his first season in Detroit.
I'm sure this won't be the only ticky-tack injury of the spring. Of course you'd prefer nothing but good news, but it is way too early to worry about anything.
