Not that we're counting -- being spring training and all -- but Max Scherzer was perfect through the first 5 1/3 innings and held a shutout through six innings while being stretched out for his longest start of spring training. However, a two-run home run by Raul Ibanez sullied Scherzer's final line a bit. He struck out eight, allowed three hits and hit a batter in the start.
The Tigers rallied to a 2-2 tie when Audy Ciriaco homered and Danny Worth drove in the tying run with a sacrifice, but things went south in the 10th inning. Worth started off with a fielding error, then Daniel Schlereth walked one. After a sacrifice and intentional walk loaded the bases, DeWayne Wise drove in two for the Yankees. Another intentional walk later, Detroit finally escaped the inning but could do no damage of its own.
Detroit was held to four hits, with Ryan Strieby, Alex Avila and Jhonny Peralta collecting one apiece.
Brandon Inge went 0-for-3, decreasing his average to .184.
