The Tigers traveled to Port Charlotte, Fla, to re-unite with Will Rhymes and face the Rays. As has been the case all spring, most things went well from a team standpoint, although there was a hiccup by a fifth-starter candidate.
Delmon Young cleared the bases with a three-run blast in the third inning. Ramon Santiago and Miguel Cabrera both had three hits. And -- continuing the theme of threes -- Doug Fister tossed three scoreless innings on the mound for the Tigers.
What else went well? Ryan Strieby had two hits, a walk and an RBI, improving his spring average to .444.
The only reason misfortune -- and it's not that big of a deal, either -- came when left-hander Duane Below allowed a run on two hits in an inning of relief. And, I guess, Alex Avila went hitless and struck out three times. But really, we're grasping.
Detroit has now run its Grapefruit League record to 6-0 and is 7-0 in all games this month.
