Detroit Tigers left fielder Delmon Young was arrested early this morning after allegedly assaulting a man outside a Midown Manhattan hotel bar. The New York Post is reporting Young was "highly intoxicated."and "pushed the man to the ground." Young was transported to a local hospital in order to sober up before being taken to a police precinct. The incident went down at 2:40 AM. There were no serious injures.

Hardball Talk is reporting Young is still in lockup, awaiting arraignment on 3rd degree assault.

This isn't the first time Young has shown to have issues with his temper. The most famous of which being his throwing a bat at an umpire after disputing a call while playing for the Durham Bulls. Young received a 50 game suspension for his actions.

This is the last thing the Tigers needed coming off a horrific home stand. Someone needs to remind Young nothing good ever happens after 2 AM.

There's been no comment from the Tigers as of yet. We'll have more as news warrants.

Update (11:05 AM, from Rob): The Freep is reporting that Young is being accused of a hate crime as well.

"Basically, there was an incident at the hotel (and) some anti-Semitic remarks," said Detective Joseph Cavitolo.

Young faces an "aggravated harassment hate crime" charge and will be processed through central booking later today, Cavitolo said.

Ugh.

Update 12:45 pm: The Tigers have released an official statement in response to Young's arrest.
