Pirates at Tigers, lineups, Friday, May 18

Bullets!

  • Jose Valverde and Austin Jackson are out and remain day to day...as are we all.
  • With the extra arms in the bullpen and Jackson out, the only healthy bench players are Gerald Laird and Ramon Santiago. Let's hope G$ is $.
  • Luis Marte will throw 40-50 pitches for the Mud Hens on Monday, and is on track to rejoin the team by next weekend.
  • Gorkys Hernandez, former Tigers farmhand who was part of the infamous Edgar Renteria trade, was added to the Pirates 25 man roster today. Small world.
  • Megatron, aka All-Pro Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, will throw out the first pitch. Word is he took BP and was putting the ball in the left field seats. The question is, can Megatron play 2nd base?
  • If you were wondering , Jim Leyland looks like he could play a little QB back in the day.
  • It's the start of interleague play. The Tigers have made big time hay in the past against the NL in the regular season, so this could not come at a better time.

Leyland also admitted the Tigers have issues while talking to the media before the game:

"I’m not one that says everything will be O.K. It’s not going to be O.K. unless you score some runs, pitch better, manage better."
