With Doug Fister laid up with a groin injury, the Tigers announced earlier in the week Drew Smyly would be recalled from Toledo after Friday's game. Smyly will replace Fister in the rotation, and will make a spot start against the Angels on Saturday.
The only question waiting for an answer was who was going to be sent down in order to make room for Smyly? After tonight's loss, the Tigers announced a roster move you could see coming a mile away.
Tigers optioned Luke Putkonen to Toledo following tonight's game. Drew Smyly will be recalled on Saturday.

Putkonen was called up for the 2nd time this season on August 13th, replacing Duane Below on the roster. The move made little sense, as Putkonen did nothing more than take up space in the bullpen.
Putkonen only made 1 appearance in this go-around with the Tigers, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings in a loss to the Orioles on August 19th, lowering his season ERA to 6.52.
