Detroit Tigers Hall of Fame candidates bewilder voters

Check out my column!

Brad Mills-US PRESSWIRE

My column on Tigers who could potentially make baseball's Hall of Fame ran on the News' site Monday and garnered some interesting reaction in the comments (as it often does!)

My goal was two-told:

1) To point out to the folks who rely too much on their eyes and memories, or too much on sabermetric statistics, that there's some middle ground. Unfortunately this has to be a running theme for me as I look at apoplectic arguments that come from one side of the debate or other without accepting context. Maybe it makes for better headlines that way. Probably does.

2) Remind a bigger audience that Trammell really put together a Hall-worthy career.

Personally, I am in the camp who favors Morris and Trammell both being in the Hall -- I may even writer about Morris specifically if he gets elected this year. And Lou Whitaker, while we're at it, totally got screwed. But, if we're going to talk about quality of candidacy, I like Trammell more than Morris for the reasons I laid out.

Which people mistook for me not wanting Morris in at all, I guess.

So give it a read and see what you think.
