As determined by a vote of his peers, Max Scherzer was named AL Most Outstanding Pitcher in the MLB Players Choice Awards. Scherzer beat out teammate Anibal Sanchez and the Rangers' Yu Darvish in the voting. Named NL Most Oustanding Pitcher was the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw.
The overwhelming favorite to win the 2013 AL Cy Young, Scherzer had a remarkable season. The only pitcher in the majors to win more than 20 games, Scherzer ended his season with a sterling 21-3 record. He led the majors in wins and winning percentage (.875), topped the AL in WHIP (0.970) and finished second in strikeouts (240) to Darvish. Scherzer also made his first All-Star Game in 2013, earning the start.
Up next for Scherzer is the BBWAA's Cy Young Award, which will be announced on November 13.
