Miguel Cabrera swept the top honors at the MLB Player's Choice Awards for a second straight season, named both AL Most Outstanding Player and Player of the Year by his peers.

The reigning AL MVP joins Albert Pujols (2008 and 2009) and Mark McGwire (1997 and 1998) as the only other players to win Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. It's the third consecutive season a Tiger has won Player of the Year, Justin Verlander taking the honors in 2011.

For AL Most Outstanding Player, Cabrera topped Chris Davis of the Orioles and Mike Trout of the Angels. In the Player of the Year balloting, Cabrera won the award over Davis and the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw.

Despite being slowed by a groin injury in the final month of the season, Cabrera narrowly missed a second straight Triple Crown. He finished second to Davis in home runs and RBIs with 44 and 137, leading the majors in hitting with a .348 average, a .442 OPB, slugging at .636 and a 1.078 OPS.

Next up for Cabrera is the BBWAA's AL Most Valuable Player Award, which will be announced November 14.

Cy Young favorite Max Scherzer was not to be left out during the ceremony, named AL Most Outstanding Pitcher by the players.
