Prince Fielder named American League Player of the Week

Prince Fielder has been near unstoppable as of late. Just ask the pitching staff of the Oakland Athletics, whom the AL Player of the Week used for batting practice.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder has been named American League Player of the Week for the period ending April 14th.

For the week, Fielder hit .632 (12-for-19), leading all of major league baseball in batting average, RBI (11), slugging percentage (1.158) and on-base percentage (.733). Fielder was also second overall in walks (9), tied for second in doubles (4), third in hits and tied for third in total bases (22).

Entering Monday night, the nine-year veteran ranked among MLB leaders in numerous offensive categories. Fielder led the majors in batting average (.429), is tied for first in RBI (19), is second in on-base percentage (.527), third in slugging percentage (.833) and tied for third in walks (10).

Also considered for the weekly honor was Tigers starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez, who posted a 2-0 record with a 1.93 ERA in 14 innings pitched.
