When today's starting lineup was released by the Detroit Tigers, there was an odd omission. No Victor Martinez. Andy Dirks was batting in the five hole as the DH against Blue Jays' starter Brandon Morrow.
Before the cries for Jim Leyland's head start (again) for the makeup of his batting order, turns out there was a legitimate reason for Martinez being out of the lineup. Eight of them, actually.
Martinez cut his right thumb on the bat rack and required 8 stitches.

Martinez is considered day-to-day.
But eight stitches from the bat rack? Must be made of razor blades.
