After five appearances with Single-A Lakeland, the Tigers are transferring the veteran reliever's injury rehab to Triple-A Toledo.

Octavio Dotel's injury recovery has progressed to the point where the Tigers announced they have transferred his rehab assignment from Single-A Lakeland to Triple-A Toledo.

The 39 year old veteran right-hander has been rehabbing in Florida since August 7, posting an 0.00 ERA in two appearances with the Gulf Coast League Tigers and a 0-1 record with a 7.71 ERA in five games with Lakeland. Dotel has given up four runs while rehabbing with Lakeland, but all four came in his first appearance. His last four games with Lakeland have all been scoreless outings.

After a solid 2012, appearing in 57 games with an ERA of 3.57, a far less effective Dotel was raked for an 13.50 ERA in 4 2/3 innings over six 2013 appearances. Dotel has not pitched for the Tigers since facing the Angels on April 19, rocked for five runs and four hits in just 2/3 of an inning. He was placed on the disabled list a week later with what was termed right elbow inflammation.

It once appeared Dotel was done for the season, his long career on the brink. It now seems the much traveled Dotel may soon be ready to pitch for the Tigers down the stretch.
